Lockheed Martin Australia has joined forces with 美诱直播stern Sydney University (WSU) to help shape the future of Australia’s aerospace industry.

The two organisations have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at building sovereign defence and aerospace capabilities, creating career pathways, and driving innovation through research and development.

From an engineering degree program to microcredentials in aerospace engineering, scholarships, internships and early career placements, the partnership aims to equip students and graduates with the skills needed to support Australia’s national security interests well into the future.

While the agreement focuses on fostering skills to support C-130J Super Hercules sustainment, it’s designed to open doors for potential work placements across other Lockheed Martin aerospace programs as well. The C-130J is a transport aircraft often used in personnel movement, aid delivery, search and survivor assistance and medical evacuation.

Warren McDonald, Chief Executive, Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand, welcomed the signing of the MOU as a demonstration of the company’s long-term commitment to developing Australian sovereign defence capabilities.

“This MOU with 美诱直播stern Sydney University further demonstrates Lockheed Martin Australia’s commitment to growing career pathways in critical STEM fields and uplifting the aerospace ecosystem nationwide.

“Through these initiatives we’re investing in the next generation of talent to help support Australia’s economic and national security interests,” he said.

Under the new MOU, a joint Steering Committee will be established with representatives from Lockheed Martin Australia, Lockheed Martin Australia Advanced Systems & Technologies and WSU to oversee a suite of education initiatives designed to open new career and innovation opportunities.

This includes launching an engineering degree program in aerospace-related fields, developing microcredentials in advanced manufacturing and materials for military and civilian aircraft, and driving research projects that help local small and medium enterprises thrive in the aerospace sector.

The MOU builds on a series of initiatives by Lockheed Martin Australia and WSU focused on advancing local skills, research, and industrial capability.

Both organisations are part of the Australian Air Mobility Cooperative Research Centre proposal recently shortlisted by the Department of Industry – a network of more than 50 universities and industry partners focused on the next generation of air vehicles, operations, and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Lockheed Martin has invested more than $39 million in Australian research and development since 2012, partnering with universities nationwide on projects that strengthen the nation’s industrial advantage.

“By combining Lockheed Martin’s aerospace and research expertise with WSU’s strengths in course design and education, the partnership is helping build a future-ready workforce and a stronger, more sovereign Australian defence industrial base,” McDonald added.
